Lufthansa Group Returns to Israel, With SWISS Resuming Flights in September while Eurowings Continues Suspension Until Late October.
After a prolonged pause due to security concerns and regional tensions, Lufthansa Group has officially announced its return to normal operations in Israel, starting August 1. This comes as significant news for Israeli passengers and the tourism and aviation sectors, which have faced severe challenges in recent months.
As Lufthansa returns, a wide array of routes between Israel and Europe will reopen, initially offering a total of 44 weekly flights. These include Austrian Airlines flights resuming to Tel Aviv on August 1, alongside Brussels Airlines, which will restart operations from August 13.
The Swiss company SWISS, which had announced suspending flights until the end of October, now states it will resume operations on September 29. Nevertheless, Eurowings, also part of Lufthansa Group, announced it would continue suspending flights to Israel until late October, adding complexity to Israel’s aviation map in the coming months.
Lufthansa’s return offers renewed hope for passengers and the industry, but the decisions by SWISS and Eurowings highlight that the situation still requires caution, marking this as a gradual and ongoing recovery process.

As mentioned, due to operational reasons, the following airlines will resume their activities as detailed below:
- SWISS, which announced last month a suspension of its flights to Israel due to operational reasons until October 25, is advancing its return to Israel to September 29.
- Eurowings suspends its flights to Tel Aviv until October 25.
It should be noted that ITA Airways, also part of the Lufthansa Group, announced it will continue to suspend its flights to Israel until the end of August.
