AEGEAN, one of Europe’s most resilient and steadily expanding airlines, has announced another strategic leap: the acquisition of two Airbus A321neo XLR aircraft, the longest-range model in the A320 family, capable of flying up to 10.5 hours and widely regarded as one of the most advanced single-aisle aircraft in the world today.
Direct Flights to India Starting March 2026
The new aircraft will facilitate the launch of direct routes to New Delhi (March 2026) and Mumbai (May 2026), marking AEGEAN’s first significant venture into the vast Indian market, which was previously not part of its route network.

AEGEAN notes that the full flight schedule will be published next September with the opening of ticket sales.
This move positions AEGEAN on the map of long-haul routes, signaling a shift in perception: no longer just a “Mediterranean carrier” but a rising player in the international market.
While some airlines use XLR as a response to operational efficiency, AEGEAN is adopting a premium concept:
Only 138 seats, of which 24 are business suites with flat beds, direct aisle access, and maximum privacy
Spacious economy class, 4K quality screens, satellite WiFi, charging ports, and enlarged storage compartments
This venture elevates the Greek airline to a new status, enabling it to compete not just on destination, but on the travel experience itself.
The Future Fleet of AEGEAN
With this order, the company’s A320/A321neo fleet will consist of 60 aircraft:
36 already delivered, 4 A321neo LR aircraft expected in 2027–2028, and 2 XLR planes to be delivered by early 2026.
The aircraft are integrated into a “dedicated” fleet for long-range flights outside the EU, placing AEGEAN in a favorable position to expand to additional destinations: Bangalore, Seychelles, Nairobi, Lagos, and the Maldives are all on the table.
Represented in Israel by Open Sky, AEGEAN may be considered a smaller airline compared to Europe’s giants, but the choice of the most advanced model and investment in a premium economy product indicates long-term thinking, not just a response to median range.
